As part of monitoring the evolution of practices regarding deduction of fees when settling invoices electronically, the Competition Council is pleased to announce that all economic operators involved in billing service fees to customers have stopped making these deductions.<\/p>\n
In this regard, it is worth recalling that the efforts made by the Competition Council in close coordination with all relevant partners have led, in a first step, to the cessation of this practice by companies operating in the telecommunications sector, private educational institutions, delegated management companies, water and electricity distribution authorities, as well as the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).<\/p>\n
Subsequently, other state services that had committed to ending this practice have indeed abandoned it as of the beginning of the year 2024, namely the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) and the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), thus demonstrating the commitment of all stakeholders involved in this practice to this action.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the Council congratulates all the stakeholders involved; their strong involvement has made it possible to provide, in a concerted and constructive framework, a definitive solution to this practice that harms consumer interests and hinders the digitalization of our economy.<\/p>\n
