Casablanca, July 13, 2021 Following a series of exchanges organized between the teams of the Competition Council and the member companies of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), Mr. Ahmed RAHHOU and Mr. Chakib ALJ, respectively President of the Competition Council and President of the CGEM, held a working session today at the CGEM headquarters to discuss the legal framework and regulations regarding competition, price freedom, and consumer protection.

During this meeting, the President of the Competition Council emphasized that healthy competition is an essential pillar for building a strong and efficient economy. The free play of competition and price freedom can ensure consumers the best availability of products and services at reasonable prices. The proper compliance by companies with the legal framework regarding price freedom and competition is the guarantee of the protection and sustainability of their investments. The Competition Council will firmly ensure compliance with these rules, while maintaining an open and educational spirit to help companies move towards best practices in this area.

For his part, the President of the CGEM reiterated the total adherence of the Confederation to the principles of free competition. He also recalled the major challenge for our dynamic economy, which is a clear, transparent, and fair application of competition rules and control of concentrations. The harmful impact of the informal sector on the national economy was also raised by Mr. ALJ, who considers the integration of the structured informal sector as an urgent matter that needs to be addressed by adopting a progressive, incentive, and inclusive approach.

On this occasion, Mr. ALJ and Mr. RAHHOU affirmed their willingness to strengthen cooperation between the CGEM and the Competition Council and to work together to involve more stakeholders in the approach towards a free, transparent, and accessible market for all. This collaboration is part of the commitment of both institutions to promote a healthy and sustainable economic development, creating growth and sustainable jobs.
