Message from the President

Reactivated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on 7 November 2018, the Competition Council is an independent constitutional institution. Its mandate is to ensure transparency and fairness in economic relations within the framework of free and fair competition, particularly through the analysis and regulation of market competition, the control of anticompetitive practices, unfair commercial practices, and economic concentration and monopolies.

The Law N° 20-13, issued on 30 June 2024, expanded and strengthened the Council’s powers, granting it broad decision-making and advisory authority, as well as the power to act on its own initiative, all aimed at improving the competitive functioning of markets.

Through these responsibilities and powers, the Competition Council plays a central role in economic governance, fostering the dynamism of the economy and society by ensuring, in practice, equal opportunities for businesses and citizens in economic activity. Its objective is to make free and fair competition a key driver of wealth creation, employment promotion, the security of domestic supply, consumer protection and purchasing power, the competitiveness of businesses and territories, and the attractiveness of the domestic economy.

In this spirits, the members of the Council and all its bodies share the conviction that this mission lays the groundwork for the future development of an economic democracy, in full compliance with the country’s constitution.
